Low Stress Handling
We are very proud to practice low stress handling techniques with the patients under our care and this thought out and considerate approach starts from the time that you first make contact with us. For us to best understand your pets needs we will ask you some additional questions when you first register your pets with us. These questions may be a little more detailed than you’ve been used to. This vital information about your pets needs however gives us real insight into how we will approach our examinations with them. As a result, it will minimize any fear or anxiety that can so often be displayed during veterinary visits making for a happier pet, less stressed you and stronger bond between us and our patients.
If you would like to read further about the Fear Free Approach that we follow and the certification that Dr Jenni Tudini holds, then further information can be found on our client center page.

Diagnostics
East Aurora Veterinary Hospital provides important diagnostics to help evaluate the health of your pet for both routine care and at times of ill-health. Some of these include:
- Blood tests (e.g. testing for heartworm, lyme disease, FIV/FELV, liver/kidney/thyroid function etc.)
- Fecal exams (e.g. testing for evidence of intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial causes of gastrointestinal disease etc.)
- Urine assessment (e.g. testing for urinary tract infections, bladder stones, etc.)
- Cytology/Biopsies (e.g. testing for infection or different types of cancer etc)
- Digital Radiology/Ultrasound (e.g. to evaluate further what we cannot palpate or see clearly)
All clinical samples are collected from your pet and can be assessed immediately in our hospital lab or sent by our staff to Idexx Laboratories for further diagnostic testing. We electronically receive routine sample results typically within 1-2 business days. Results will be reviewed and you will receive a call from us to discuss the findings.
Surgery
We have full surgical capabilities and performing spays, neuters, mass excisions, cystotomies, ear hematomas and wound repairs are among some of the most common surgical techniques provided, however this list isn’t all inclusive. To help determine the best anesthetic plan and medications to be used during a procedure, pre-anesthetic blood work may be mandatory.
During the procedure patients will have an IV catheter and fluids. During surgery, patients are maintained on Isoflurane, an inhalant gas anesthetic. More importantly vital signs including heart rate, respiration rate, temperature, SpO2, and an ECG are monitored while your pet is under anesthesia. We will advise you on options in controlling potential pain your pet may experience after a surgical procedure.
Dental Care
Regular professional oral examinations are important in maintaining your pet’s teeth. Upon examination of your pet we will advise you on a Periodontal Therapy Plan.
Our Periodontal Therapy Plan is based off of the American Veterinary Dental College grading system. For information regarding this grading system or other helpful information please click here.
In some cases’ a dental cleaning or advanced care may be needed.
Unfortunately, this procedure cannot be done safely and efficiently while your pet is awake. We utilize gas anesthesia following pre-medication and induction, with continuous anesthetic monitoring during all dental procedures. Pre-dental blood work helps us better determine the best combinations of anesthesia to lessen the risk of the dental procedure, and is mandatory for all anesthetic procedures. Placing an intravenous (IV) catheter and maintaining your pet on intravenous fluids during a dental procedure is also always performed.
During a dental cleaning, we perform a thorough oral examination by probing every tooth for pockets and lesions. We perform full mouth dental radiographs in all dental procedures to provide us with the most accurate information as to your pets’ oral health below the gum line. These radiographs then provide a guide as to what advanced care may be warranted. An ultrasonic dental scaler and polisher is then used to clean and polish each tooth above and below the gum line.
Hospitalization & Medical Boarding
We understand that sometimes patients need a little more intensive care and require hospitalization or boarding for long term medication administration when owners are away. We have capabilities to hospitalize your pet so that they can receive the ongoing care that is required until they are more stable with respect to their health, or until you return home.
Hospice Care and Euthanasia
Should your pets’ health deteriorate we are here to help guide you in providing the optimal palliative care for them. Through communicating regularly with you, we will create an at home care plan that allows your pet to retain dignity and quality of life until the time comes for them to be at rest. We know first-hand that caring for a terminally ill or advanced aged pet can be complicated and confusing. We are here to help, so that both you and your pet can navigate the journey together in the most peaceful way.
The decision to euthanize your pet is likely to be the most difficult decision you will ever have to make as a pet owner. If the quality of your pet’s life has diminished so that they are experiencing more bad days than good, then it may be time to consider easing your pet’s suffering. If you are unsure, then we can provide resources to help you understand clearer where your pets’ quality of life stands.Â
Quality of Life consultations will be performed on all new patients prior to euthanizing. We will examine your pet in their own environment to get an accurate understanding of their medical problems and quality of life to guide you through this critical time.
We will not euthanize a patient with a manageable or treatable disease (ie arthritis, blindness, deafness, untreated diarrhea, untreated renal disease, etc.). If there is a medical condition that needs to be managed, and you feel unable to provide the necessary care we will work to find alternative solutions for your pets’ healthcare needs.
Our sister practice, Fetch the Vet will be able to provide the in-home end of life care which is becoming increasingly more important for many families. They will sedate (where appropriate) your pet in its favorite location, allowing you time to say goodbye. After the sedative has taken effect, the final medication will be administered via injection while you comfort your pet. We work closely with a local crematorium to help arrange your pets after care.
Please Note: East Aurora Veterinary Hospital and Fetch the Vet M.V.P performs euthanasia only on pets who have an unmanageable disease or those with little quality of life remaining. We reserve the right to refuse euthanasia if we feel it is being chosen as a convenience option (i.e. I want a new pet; I’m having a baby; It was my parent’s pet and I don’t want it; It’s just old; etc.). If determined that it is not time to euthanize your pet, a house call fee and quality of life examination charge will be assessed.
Care for your pet’s remains is a very personal decision. Every family will be different and the choice is yours alone to make. If you wish, we will take your beloved pet with us and we will arrange for cremation services. They will be handled with care, as if they were our own.
Private Cremation
You can choose to have your pet cremated privately at a licensed crematorium. Cremains (ashes) are usually returned to you in 1-2weeks. Arrangements will be made with you at the time of euthanasia for receiving their ashes.
Communal Cremation
With this cremation option, pets are respectfully cremated with other animals at a licensed crematorium and their ashes are scattered on a private farm
Home Burial
If you prefer to keep your pet at home and elect a home burial then please check for any local regulations in respect to their burial site.
